Education
and Children's Health
Fit4Free's Preventative Health
Education Program
It is the responsibility and the
obligation of parents and schools to teach children the elements
of a healthy lifestyle.
Statistics show that only one half
of young people in the United States participate in vigorous physical
activity. The percentage of young people who are overweight has
more than doubled in the past thirty years.
Children no longer participate in
physical training at school- they play sports during PE. Playing
sports for physical education is not the answer, because only a
few kids are athletic enough to benefit from this type of exercise.
This leaves the other children without an adequate way to get the
necessary amount of physical activity necessary to ensure good health
and to keep them at a desirable weight.
The situation at home is no better.
Children who should be engaged in healthy play are instead glued
to the television, the computer, or video games. Inactivity
and poor diet are responsible for at least thirty thousand deaths
a year in the United States. Is this the legacy we wish for
our children?
