Fosters a Fitness Revolution
Sickened by the statistics
the percentage of young people who
are overweight has more than doubled in the past 30 years...more
than 1/3 do not regularly engage in vigorous exercise, and less
than 20% eat the recommended daily servings of fruits and vegetables...prominent
personal trained Raphael Picaud has decided to use his muscle to
foster a fitness revolution. The exercise guru, turned activist
founded in 2001 the non-profit FIT4FREE, with the goal of revolutionizing
the basic tenets of health and fitness.
It is Picaud and FIT4REEs mission to encourage Americans to
adopt a lifestyle strategy that includes exercise, proper nutrition
and preventative medicine. FIT4FREE has immediately set into motion
two programs: Preventative Health Education sessions for Southern
California youth and senior oriented organizations, and Fit Village,
the transformation of an already existing community into a health
and fitness oriented village where wellness is at its
very core.
In Los Angeles, FIT4FREE has pilot programs in place at the Boys
& Girls Club of Hollywood and Optimist High School. In each
program, Picaud himself works with the youths, two afternoons per
week, motivating them to work-out, eat right and embrace a healthy
lifestyle.
The pilot Fit Village will be located on an Indian reservation in
New Mexico. In response to a request from their local hospital,
plans are developing to create a fitness community with free exercise
equipment and classes, a nutrition program, which includes a restaurant
offering healthy menus and a library, with videos and books that
promote fitness.
FIT4FREE is hosting an information session and fundraiser on November
9th, 7-9 pm at the Anderson Graduate School of Management, UCLA.
Hosted by Board member and actress Kelly Lynch, attendees will meet
additional Board members and be introduced to the goals and pilot
programs of FIT4FREE and the Fit Village.
