 Fit4Free's Health Education Programs

The Fit Community Program at the Boys and Girls Club of Hollywood

Fit4Free’s “Fit Community Program”, hosted at the Boys and Girls Club of Hollywood, inspires healthy eating habits and increases physical activity levels through cooking classes and fitness classes, respectively. These classes are taught by experienced and enthusiastic professionals, and offered on a weekly basis to youth ages 6-13.

Please visit our Fit Community Programs page to learn more about these classes.

What is a "Fit Community"?

A Fit Community is a community in which good health and fitness become a community concern. In our vision of the Fit Community, families are provided with access to professional gym facilities, and kids regularly participate in programs that support healthy lifestyles. As stated in our organization's name these programs should be free for underserved and low-income communities.

We are well on our way to making this a reality for at least one community in Los Angeles - the community of children and families at the Boys and Girls Club of Hollywood. At the Boys and Girls Club of Hollywood, 82% of the children served live below the poverty line, 75% receive little or no physical education in school, and at least 18% of these children are overweight. Furthermore, the prevaling Latino population at BGCH has a higher risk for diabetes, and the health complications that are associated with diabetes.

With a state-of-the-art adult gym and weekly curriculum supporting our lifestyle objectives, the Boys and Girls Club has become the very first Fit Community.
